May 12, 2010 Some People Are Just Not That Into You…But Others Are
I was going through my Google Reader today and I came across a post telling Justin Bieber to watch out because Greyson97 might just be the next Bieber. Have a listen: I will admit that this boy is really good but if you watch the video again, there’s one girl in the middle (with her [...]

October 20, 2009 The Fabricated You: The Inherent Problem With Personal Branding
“People care a lot about controlling information about themselves. Their reputation, their privacy. And there was a big question whether the world would evolve this way that people would have control over that themselves, or if that information would just be available…Everyone has an identity that they want to express.” ~ Mark Zuckerberg, Founder & [...]

July 2, 2009 So Won’t The Real Davone Bess Please Stand Up, Please Stand Up, Please Stand Up
If you haven’t heard by now, former University of Hawaii slotback Davone Bess became the lattest victim of online identity theft. According to an article written by the NFL Fanhouse site, Bess wants to press charges on the person who was impersonating him on Twitter.

April 8, 2009 Twitter as a Promotional Tool
I opened TweetDeck today to find a nice surprise from the UH Athletics Department. For the longest time they’ve been using Twitter like an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed, pulling information off their website and placing it on Twitter. They even had some of their Assistant Media Relation Directors tweeting live updates at various events. [...]

March 26, 2009 What Being a Director of Community Would Be Like
In my last post I proposed having someone run and manage a social network for the Manoa Maniacs’ to help boost the student engagement and bring the school spirit back to life. I came across a great post by Amber Naslund, Being a Director of Community, where she outlines her day-to-day duties managing the Radian6 [...]

February 26, 2009 Great Example of Using Social Media
On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, The Honolulu Advertiser held “The Warrior Beat,” an online sports talk show, with hosts Stephen Tsai and the lovely Leila Wai. They’ve been doing this show for the past few weeks now, and this was a golden opportunity that I’m glad the Hawaii Athletics Department took advantage of. The special [...]

February 25, 2009 NCAA IS Limiting The Use Of Social Media For College Athletics
I just got off the phone with Sports Information Director, Derek Inouchi and we had a great conversation about what the Hawaii Athletics Department can do in terms of using social media. They can create accounts for all these social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, etc. However, there is an NCAA rule that [...]

February 25, 2009 Hawaii Athletics on Twitter!!!
Video blog #2: I filmed this on Friday, February 20, 2009 While I do applaud the Hawaii Athletics Department for being on Twitter, this quick look will show their activity: How many replies (@) do you see? I sent them a tweet asking a question and I still haven’t gotten a response back. How many [...]

February 23, 2009 It’s As Simple As Buying A Ticket…Not!
Ferd Lewis from the Honolulu Advertiser did a great job reporting on the University of Hawaii Athletic Department’s current financial situation, which isn’t good at all. Not only have they accumulated a net deficit of $5.4 million over a five-year period (the Herman Frazier Administration), Lewis reported that “UH athletic director Jim Donovan has said [...]
