March 27, 2009 Looking For Ideas
I’ve been thinking about it for a while and I think I’ll take on the responsibility of creating a network for all Hawaii Athletic fans that want to figure out ways to create better experiences at games, but I need your help.
I’m looking for an identifiable name for all us fans. The students are the Manoa Maniacs, Duke has the Cameron Crazies, Fresno St. has the Dog Pound, Texas A&M has the 12th Man, etc. I’m looking for any suggestions as to what to call this fan club.
I guess the best example I can think of is Stephen Tsai’s blog readers. They are called the Tsaiko’s. Something along those lines so when people hear it they know exactly who we are.
Please let me know any suggestions you have and ask your friends to visit this blog and add their suggestion to. The more the better and it’s the first step towards launching this effort.

That’s a tough one man. It’s right up there with making a logo. You have to be able to convey a lot, clearly and concisely, with very little. What complicates things is that our teams are only unified by the name “Hawaii.” Check this out:
Problem–our name. Here is what our teams go by: Warriors, Rainbow Warriors, Rainbow Wahine, Wahine, Bows. Multiple names means it’s harder to give us one unifying one.
Problem–our team colors. What we know for sure: green & white. Other colors that have been or are used: black, silver, orange, rainbow colors.
Now, I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it ain’t going to be easy given what we’re working with. The “Tsaikos” formed organically. It might have to be the same with this group that you’re/we’re forming.

I was thinking about this the other night right before I went to bed. I knew I should have written my idea down because now I forgot. I’m thinking something in Hawaiian (makes it unique). Too bad Dr. Kanalu Young passed away.
Anyway… brainstorming… Something with pride, Hawaiian — I wonder if there’s some kind of term for supporting warriors in battle or like a fighting spirit.
Ok, that’s all for now. Sorry if my ideas are lame. My brain is in the middle of being fried now that school is back in session.

Like Yoda808 said, this is really hard. It’s likes coming up with a company name that stands out and is unique.
But my old instructor Jeff made a good point about trying to start something like this and it being hard because there is no real passion amongst the students. It’s easy to build it when there is an already large group of people willing to join and help but trying to start it when there is only a handful of people is going to take much more time and effort.
This is something that ultimately the athletics department or ASUH needs to take care of.
